Malarrif Lighthouse, Iceland

Another stop on the excursion from Gunderfjordur was the Malarrif Lighthouse. What is the fascination with lighthouses?

Malarrif Lighthouse

I was just as impressed with the two towers. A single wire hangs between the two towers and another wire connects to the centre and goes down to the house. I believe this is a radio receiver for long-wave (low frequency) radio reception and/or transmission. It wasn’t until I selected the next picture that I noticed the wires.

The lighthouse is located at the un-numbered orange tag at the bottom left below.

In the satellite image above, the lighthouse is the blue dot at the bottom centre, The parking lot is at the top centre and the visitor centre/toilet is where the blue dot is near the parking lot.

The most popular stop at this sight but the lineups were long.

To help relieve the boredom of waiting in line, there were many signs of the local folk wisdom. Here are a few for your entertainment. Do I need a disclaimer here?

Here is a quick video to summarize all there is to see at this southern point of the peninsula.

Just a quick look around.
