Woodlot Homes

What do you think might be living in this woodlot? You may have already seen the squirrels. In the video sounds you may hear the birds. Here are a couple of places you can let your mind wander and wonder what could be there.

Do you think there could be something living there?

I was curious about who might have built this. Was it a team effort? What was or is it’s purpose? Who came to knock it down?

Beside the trail I came face to face with this resident. He watched me as I made the adjustments to my camera and held still while I took his picture. Then I mentioned that I was going to walk on the path beside him and, with my hand, I motioned the direction I was intending to go. He hopped off of the log beside the path and moved off into the underbrush so that we could observe proper social distancing.

A knowledgeable resident if the woodlot.

In spite of warnings about not using bicycles in the park because of “immovable objects” better known as trees, it just may be the shortest way home from school.

I hope his mom doesn’t see this.

There are also signs about not tobogganing on the hills.

Look at all of the “immovable objects”.

I know where there is a bench where you can rest. Let’s go for a walk, it is not far.

The recently acquired part has been manicured.

This part has been changed dramatically from it’s natural state. The underbrush has been removed and wood chips have been brought in by the truckload to create a walking surface for the pathway. You will notice a pile of them to the right of the path. The white rectangle on the horizon is the exit to the busy road and homes. Now if your home was backing onto this woodlot, wouldn’t you put a gate in your back fence so you could easily access the “wild” space?

Notice the gate in the fence.

  1. Being able to spend time in areas such as this is so calming, and your posts help to get in the mindset. Your descriptions make you feel as if you’re right there, in the woodlot.
